"Fancy-coloured diamonds see a surge in demand amidst a cautious start to the diamond trade in 2023."
The diamond trade began 2023 with a slow start, according to a recent report from the Rapaport Group. The report indicates that rough diamond prices have increased by 2.7%, while polished diamond prices have remained stable. The demand for rough diamonds has been impacted by supply chain disruptions and weak consumer demand, particularly in the U.S. and China. The Rapaport report also states that global diamond jewellery sales declined by an estimated 3% in 2022.
However, despite the cautious start, the industry is optimistic about the future, as the report highlights an increase in the demand for fancy-coloured diamonds.
