The Diamond Manufacturers & Importers Association of America (DMIA) is setting up a verification center housing five lab-grown detection machines.
The diamond industry organization will launch the lab at its New York headquarters on January 10, it said Sunday. The location will house five instruments — one created by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and four from De Beers. Although the service is free, members will be required to make appointments.
Separately, the International Gemological Institute (IGI), in conjunction with the DMIA, is testing a same-day diamond verification service for single stones and diamond parcels. The DMIA will hold a meeting for members on January 10 to provide details about both initiatives.
