'Fortune Pink' diamond could fetch $35 million at Christie's

The world’s largest pear-shaped fancy vivid pink diamond ever to be offered at auction will lead the Geneva Magnificent Jewels sale on November 8, as part of Christie’s Luxury Week. Named The Fortune Pink, its estimate is $25 million - $35 million.

Weighing an “auspicious” 18.18 carats, the diamond’s weight literally translates to definite prosperity in Asia, Christie’s said in a statement. Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s International head of Jewellery, added that this gem “will certainly bring good fortune to its new owner.”

The Fortune Pink will be revealed at Christie’s New York the week of October 3, before touring to Shanghai, October 10 – 13, Taiwan, October 21 – 23, and Singapore, October 28 - 30. The diamond will then be on public display during Christie’s Luxury Week at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva from November 2 to 8.

The auction house has yet to release any more information about the diamond, such as its provenance, or any other details about the quality of the gem, such as its laboratory report.

To-date the largest vivid pink diamond sold at Christie’s was the Winston Pink Legacy, an 18.96-carat fancy vivid pink cut-cornered rectangular-cut diamond. It achieved more than $50.3 million at Christie’s Geneva sale in November 2018. Its $2.65 million per carat price set a world record for a pink diamond sold at auction.

Other important pink diamond sales at Christie’s include:

  • The Pink Promise, a 14.93-carat fancy vivid pink oval-shaped diamond that sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, November 2017, for more than $32.1 million with a price per carat of $2.15 million; and

  • The Sakura, a 15.81-carat fancy vivid purple-pink cushion mixed cut diamond that sold at Christie’s Hong Kong in May 2021 for more than $29.2 million, with a price per carat of more than $1.8 million.
