India and Bangladesh are set to explore new avenues of partnership in the gems and jewellery sector, as they held a meeting on 28th February to discuss the potential and challenges of cooperation. The meeting was attended by H.E. Md. Mustafizur, the Bangladesh High Commissioner, and. Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director of GJEPC, along with other representatives from both countries.
Ray provided a detailed overview of the Indian gems and jewellery industry, emphasising the substantial contribution it makes to the country’s GDP and total merchandise exports. The discussion also highlighted the expertise of skilled artisans and the industry’s intrinsic craftsmanship. He further outlined various global promotional initiatives, including events such as IIJS, BSM, Overseas Exhibitions, and Design Seminars undertaken by the GJEPC.
The High Commissioner acknowledged the sector’s significance and commended GJEPC’s efforts in global promotion and strengthening. He expressed full support for collaboration between the two countries in the gems and jewellery sector, aiming for enhanced market and business opportunities. This signifies a positive step toward fostering bilateral cooperation in this domain.
