Indian women hold 11% of global gold, more than USA, Germany, Italy, France, and Russia combined: WGC

The cultural affinity for gold  has led Indian women to accumulate an estimated 24,000 tons of gold, representing 11% of the world’s total gold reserves in jewellery form, according to the World Gold Council. Often passed down through generations, this vast gold reserve reflects India’s deep cultural bond with the precious metal. The report further states that women in the southern part of India hold 40 per cent of India's gold, and Tamil Nadu alone holds 28 per cent.

The sheer volume of gold owned by Indian women surpasses the combined reserves of the top five gold-holding countries. For comparison:United States: 8,000 tons,Germany: 3,300 tons,Italy: 2,450 tons,France: 2,400 tons and Russia: 1,900 tons
