New Information Portal by Platinum Guild International Aims to Increase Popularity of Responsibly-Sourced Platinum
The Platinum Guild International (PGI) has launched a new information portal to promote the responsible sourcing of platinum in the jewellery industry. The portal, which showcases initiatives promoting responsible platinum production and supporting local communities, is aimed at educating the wider industry on the benefits of responsibly-sourced platinum.
According to the PGI CEO, Huw Daniel, a survey conducted in the third quarter of 2023 among 4,300 jewellery consumers in the four largest markets for platinum jewellery, namely China, India, Japan, and the US, found that “responsibly sourced materials” ranked among the top three most important factors of consideration when purchasing jewellery.
“Consumers are paying increasing attention to this trend, and in some markets, they are willing to choose jewellery that has a positive environmental and social impact at a premium,” said Daniel. “Leading platinum producers, who are also funding PGI, are actively driving a wide range of activities that put the environment and society at the heart of what they do.”
The PGI is an international marketing organisation that has been promoting platinum jewellery since 1975, with the aim of increasing consumer and trade interest in the metal. With the launch of the new portal, the PGI hopes to raise awareness of the responsible sourcing of platinum and improve its popularity in the jewellery industry.
