Sotheby’s will offer a 53.04-carat diamond at its upcoming New York jewelry auction, where it is expected to bring in up to $5 million.
The unmounted pear-shaped, D-color, internally flawless stone is one of the highlights of the June 7 Magnificent Jewels sale, the auction house said last week.
Additionally, the sale will be one of the first to feature the company’s new pricing structure, which includes a 26% decrease on buyers’ fees. Sotheby’s surveyed “ten of thousands of clients” to see if it would affect their bidding, and more than 90% said they would bid higher, the auction house revealed.
