TTD may soon sell gold mangalasutras

Hindu couples who are potentially set to tie the knot might be able to purchase ‘mangalasutrams’ from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams which is contemplating selling the most sacred jewellery in a Hindu marriage, with a divine touch.

The temple administration, which has been selling gold and silver dollars with the imprint of Lord Venkateswara at its outlets, will shortly roll out the ‘mangalasutrams’ made of gold.

According to sources, the trust board under the chairmanship of YV Subba Reddy will take a final call on the proposal on Saturday.

TTD’s finance committee had recommended to make use of the gold offered by devotees at its temple hundis to make mangalasutrams and sell them. It had recommended TTD’s golden mangalasutrams be made at the government mint located in Mumbai.

Sources say the TTD trust board is likely to trim budgetary allocation to the Garuda varadhi expressway project to Rs 50 crore against its earlier proposal of Rs 100 crore.
