Uttar Pradesh, with an annual gems and jewellery trade exceeding Rs 1 trillion, is taking steps to strengthen its position in the industry. Over a million people are involved in manufacturing and exporting, with key hubs in Meerut, Lucknow, NOIDA, Moradabad, Kanpur, and Agra. The state government plans to develop Meerut into a major jewellery manufacturing hub, with a proposed 32,000-square-meter center to support gems, precious stones, and gold jewellery production. The initiative includes a multi-storey factory complex to encourage growth and startups. Uttar Pradesh's organised gems and jewellery market contributes 35% to the overall sector, which is vital for India’s merchandise exports.
