Karnataka aims to increase its presence in the gem and jewellery sector, said Murugesh R. Nirani, Minister for Large and Medium Industries. The state plans to establish a jewellery park that is expected to generate more than 100,000 jobs and become a hub for South India. The minister spoke at the India International Jewellery Show, IIJS Tritiya, organised by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council in Bangalore. From April 2022 to February 2023, the state's gem and jewellery exports grew 169% to reach $150.33m, as compared to the previous year. The event is expected to attract over 15,000 trade visitors from 600 cities and generate over INR1tn ($13.2bn) in business in 2023.
